Dear Earth

Writing 101 Day 14: To Whom It May Concern
Today’s Prompt: Pick up the nearest book and flip to page 29. What’s the first word that jumps off the page? Use this word as your springboard for inspiration.
Today’s twist: write the post in the form of a letter.

Dear Earth,

Belated happy birthday! Well, technically not really your birthday but it’s nice to remember the birth of the environmental movement.

How are you? The heat’s bothering you, I know. Global Warming and Climate Change won’t just leave you alone. But the good thing is, I think more and more people are now becoming aware of your plight and are actually doing something. See they have organized a variety of activities to honor you. There’s the Earth Run, tree-planting, concerts, clean-ups and so on. These efforts may seem superficial and short-lived but it’s better than nothing, right?

Hey! Good news! I just started working for a renewable-energy company, solar energy to be precise. It’s about time that we move to a cleaner alternative energy source. It reduces carbon emission. It also decreases, and I hope it could eventually eliminate, our dependence on coal.

A lot of things to celebrate about. Here’s to a longer life and a healthier you!

  1. I enjoyed reading this more positive/upbeat letter addressed to Earth! Usually, they’re always focused more on the negative, which I think is important too, but it’s nice to see something positive for a change. Well done!
